Wikipedia is such a great resource, don’t you think? I find it a truly cool community site with loads of interesting, groovy and informative titbits. I thought it would be fun to look up some of the more generic event-type terms. Here are some gems:
Weddings: A double wedding is a single ceremony where two fiancé couples rendezvous for two separate weddings. Typically, a fiancé with a sibling might plan a double wedding with that sibling.
Party: is a celebration that occurs to celebrate the birth of the person being honoured. The birthday party is the most celebrated event in the world.[1] As of July 2006 there were approximately 6.525 billion people on Earth[2]. If birthdays were perfectly random in their distribution across the year, and if every person were to celebrate theirs at their exact birth time then there would be a birthday celebration every 0.005 seconds. While a child’s party is usually at home and consists of soft drinks and sweet food as well as savoury, adults’ often take place in clubs with a buffet of savoury food and alcohol.
Baby Shower: In India, a long history of celebration parties or ritual observances in the Hindu religion are held resembles a modern baby shower. It is traditionally held in the seventh month, i.e. 28-32 weeks of pregnancy. In earlier times it was a function which was organized and attended by women only. Nowadays due to India’s level of western influences and more found in upper-class or professional castes, in many times both genders of the family and friends circle are included in this function. It’s also a function to celebrate the expected arrival of the baby and present the parents-to-be with gifts appropriate for the expectant newborn as well as either of the parents-to-be.
Happy Celebrating!
