Even if you missed Kath and Kim on Sunday night, you surely have heard the buzz that kids parties are becoming ridiculously expensive for parents to put on.
The story on Sunday night was typical Kath and Kim style! Epponnee-Raelene Kathleen Darlene Charlene Craig was turning one so it was party time at Lagoon court. Kim spared no expense to make sure Epponnee’s party was going to blow everyone out of the water. The style of party Kim chose was one of the hotties right now – the Hollywood party – where kids dress up as their favourite characters, walk the red carpet and are treated to VIP status at the celebrations. The party didn’t go to plan, and Kim well and truly pushed and blew the budget.
Since the episode aired, I’ve been asked to comment a few times on the crazy cost of kids parties at the moment. My opinion on this is as it has always been: I truly believe the most wonderful gift you can give a child is a fantasy party in which they live out their wildest dreams – with friends and family! You want the party you’re organising for your little one to be an occasion he or she remembers and talks about for many years to come. To me, the sheer joy of a toddler’s face when presented with their themed birthday cake or when they rip open their gift, is what hosting a party is all about.
However, I never recommend parents spend beyond their means to please their kids. You can achieve a magical party with the smallest of budgets. It’s amazing what you can achieve with as little as $100. You can also achieve a wonderful celebration for your kids with many thousands of dollars, but please only do this if you have the money to spare!
I often post budget party ideas on Australia Entertains, and Pink Frosting not only sells exclusive kids party gear, but also budget ranges to suit those with more limited resources.
At the end of the day, don’t do a Kim and blow the budget on an event that the guest of honour won’t even remember… do spend within your means and think creatively to create your very own party magic.
Happy Celebrating!
Kathryn
