Best Wedding Tips Number 2: Marrying Outdoors in Springtime

Filed under: General, Wedding Dress, Wedding Themes, Weddings — Kathryn @ 3:02 pm

There is nothing I love more than a ceremony held in a garden brimming with beautiful spring flowers, especially when the blossoms are dancing in the sunshine and it isn’t too hot yet. There is something magical about saying your “I do’s” in this romantic setting and charging your sparkling champagne glass afterwards in the golden sunlight.

Choose your favourite flower as your main wedding theme. Whether it be a peony or a daffodil, flowers can be some of the most beautiful inspirations for your big day. Replicate the flower’s colours, blooms and scent in your day from your invitations to your bridesmaid’s gowns to your reception table decor.

Allow your bridesmaids to choose their own gowns in sherberty-Spring colours such as mint, peony or yellow. Sherbert colours in all different designs can look incredibly modern and happy for your ceremony.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s best wedding tip number 3!

Princess Cupcakes

Filed under: Children's Parties, Cupcakes, General, Princess Parties — Kathryn @ 10:17 am

I recently organised a really fun Sweet 16th Birthday celebration with a Princess theme. The cupcakes we designed were really sweet with little princess tiaras. Here are the pics for some inspiration for your next Princess Party.

The mixture was an organic vanilla base which was spooned into hot pink cupcake patties.

After the cupcakes had cooled, the lavender buttercream frosting was piped on top.

We then made little princess crowns from pink marzipan (hand-rolled) and cut with little cookie cutters (the small ones are simply stars with the bottom point cut off). The tiaras were studded with little silver cachous which you can purchase from just about any supermarket.

Finally, we arranged the cakes on three tiers and decorated the collection with gorgeous feather boas.

Birthday Bash for Anna Nicole’s Daughter

Filed under: Budget, Children's Parties, General — Kathryn @ 3:00 pm

Having spoken on many occasions about crazy kids party costs recently, it seems fitting that this weekend the ultimate crazy kids party took place. Dannielynn Birkhead, the daughter of the late Anna Nicole Smith was treated to a first birthday party that even amazes this party planner!

According to Associated Press, pink balloons decorated the iron gates in front of socialite Tricia Barnstable Brown’s home, where Smith and Dannielynn’s father, Louisville native Larry Birkhead, met at a party on the eve of the 2003 Kentucky Derby.

“It really was great to see her smile, especially through all the things that we’ve been through, just to get to that milestone of one year was just great,” Birkhead said.

Invited guests had to surrender their cell phones before entering and sign a release form promising not to take any pictures. Dozens of children attended the party with their parents.

Some guests arrived in limousines and stretch Humvees, bearing large stuffed animals and other gifts. One guest was seen carrying a large pencil drawing of Dannielynn, whose actual birthday was Friday.

“My daughter had a really, really good time,” Birkhead said. “Barney the dinosaur came and gave a special performance. The kids loved it.”

A hot-air balloon shaped as a birthday cake adorned the front yard. Yellow police tape stretched around the yard in the posh Louisville neighborhood, and about a half-dozen off-duty police officers guarded the property.

One guest, Tina Showalter of Louisville, said she had known Birkhead most of his life. Showalter said she left the party about 15 minutes after arriving mainly because it was so crowded.

“Everything is a little frenzied in there,” she said.

Showalter said that in the back yard there was “a huge castle as big as a house,” along with bubble machines and a white carriage.

About a dozen onlookers hoped to get a glimpse of a celebrity, but they left disappointed.

Leslie Rizzo, 27, staked out the party with her mom, Diane, hoping see Dannielynn.

“She has to come out sometime,” Leslie Rizzo said, clutching a digital camera.

Smith, a former Playboy Playmate, gave birth to Dannielynn a few days before the death of her son, Daniel, 20, in the Bahamas. Smith died of an accidental drug overdose in Florida in February at the age of 39.

Howard K. Stern, her lawyer and companion, initially claimed to be Dannielynn’s father, but Smith’s ex-boyfriend Birkhead eventually proved that he was the father.

It sounds like a first birthday sent from heaven to me!

Romantic Spring Flowers

Filed under: Entertaining, Flowers, Flowers, General, Wedding Decorating, Weddings — Kathryn @ 8:43 am

Spring flowers can reflect romance and tradition, or due to their often dramatic lines and shapes, they can be used in stunning modern displays. The important thing to keep in mind: many of these blooms have relatively short seasons of availability, so work with your florist to determine what will be available in your area on the date of your wedding before you lock in to one choice.

Varieties: Tulips come in almost every colour except blue; varieties include French, Parrot, Fringed, Double and more. Style: modern minimalist, high style, classic traditionalist. Use them en masse or in a mixed bouquet for a classic, traditional feel; displays that emphasise their linear form and silhouette yield a chic, modern look.

Colours: Peonies range from pure white to pale pink to rich vibrant magenta. Their style is sweet romance, modern minimalist. They have an amazing fragrance, and they deliver two very different looks from their two stages. In bud, when they are tight little balls, they’re perfect for a cleaner look; when they open up to be huge and frilly, they lend a romantic and princess-like feel.

Colours are white, pink, red, orange, yellow, with a back to nature style. The full, multi-petal ranunculus offers layer upon layer of texture when open, but when mixed in with the buds, it has a whole new look.

Colours are white, pink, blue, purple, with a sweet romance style. Hyacinths have a lovely scent with dainty little blooms that are very feminine. They look great in silver pots with moss at their base, or in mixed arrangements.

Lilacs are pale to deep purple-blue and demonstrate a sweet romantic and classic traditionalist style. If you have a penchant for all things old-world, Lilac’s are a fantastic base flower in combination with other flowers to create lush centrepieces, or let them stand on their own as a true show flower.

Try quince, cherry, dogwood, pear, apple to lend a woodsy, natural feel to any arrangement. They can also be used in glamorous designs that play up their artful shapes, or showcased in an oversize glass vase or lacquered vessel for a modern, contemporary look.

The First of the Grey’s Anatomy Weddings

Filed under: Celebrity Weddings, General, Weddings — Kathryn @ 8:43 am

Kate Walsh Wedding Pic

Beautiful redhead Kate Walsh has officially bagged her own McDreamy in a sunset wedding ceremony in LA over the US long-weekend. Kate is the first of three of the Grey’s Anatomy stars to get hitched over the next few months.

E! Online reports that the star has tied the knot with her fiancé of just four months, movie executive Alex Young, in a sunset ceremony at California’s Ojai Presbyterian Church in the resort town just north of Los Angeles.

The 39-year-old bride donned a custom-made gown from go-to celeb wedding dresser Monique Lhuillier along with diamond and platinum earrings from jeweller Neil Lane, which also designed the couple’s hand made wedding bands. The 36-year-old 20th Century Fox exec wore the requisite penguin suit.

The duo swapped vows in front of slightly more than 100 guests, among them Walsh’s Grey’s Anatomy costars Sara Ramirez, Katherine Heigl and Chandra Wilson. Show creator Shonda Rhimes was present for the ceremony, which kicked off with a gospel choir rendition of Rascal Flatts’ hit “Bless the Broken Road,” as was Kate Beckinsale and her hubby, director Len Wiseman.

According to People magazine, Walsh’s big day turned into a big night as well, at the nearby Ojai Valley Inn & Spa resort. The nuptial madness continued with a reception and sit-down dinner at the inn’s Spanish-style estate, Casa Elar. The newlyweds are also expected to host a postnuptial brunch for their guests on Sunday morning.

It’s the first marriage for both, and while the fairy-tale ending was smoothly executed, the run-up to the union wasn’t totally bump free.

“I had a fitting a few days ago, and who knew someone could get that hysterical about a bra!” Walsh told Entertainment Tonight last week about her brief flirtation with being a bridezilla. “The sad part was there was a mirror there, so I had to see my face turn to stone, snakes coming out of my hair. It was bad. I can’t believe I had a meltdown over a bra!”

Still, the bride said, “I’m living a very good dream.”

Walsh and Young announced their betrothal last May—he popped the question during a trip for two to San Francisco—just one day after ABC announced it had picked up her spinoff for the fall season. Walsh confirmed the engagement after being unable to hide the massive sparkler on her finger, a Neil Lane Jubilee-cut diamond.

Katherine Heigl and Ellen Pompeo are the next Grey’s Anatomy stars set to wed.
