March 4th, 2008.

I’m not sure about the rest of Australia, but autumn sure hit us in Canberra this weekend. The fresh morning air arrived suddenly and brought with it orange tips on some trees by our lakes and thoughts of many nights in front of a romantic fire to come.

With autumn comes a real change in event decorating. Outside our beautiful beach communities around Australia, the change means that bright summery blues and pastels just won’t cut it for decorating your event. Warm pumpkin, burnt siena, cool olive and mustard yellows are the hues of this season. Mix them if you dare with dark berries and chocolate browns.

We’ve been scouring the globe for the warmest of autumn decorating pieces and think we’ve hit the jackpot for our Aussie and Kiwi clients. I’m particularly loving the new autumn leaf parasol we’ve just received in – I love it so much I keep it open in our office and we all keep tripping over it on our way to the phones! Risk manager I ain’t, but in love with warm hues and an oiled parasol I sure am!

Here are a few of our autumn event decorating ideas to inspire you.

Pottery Barn Theme

Autumn leaf garlands, lanterns and warm hues to set the scene for your themed event (above photo by Pottery Barn, Reception design by Pollen Atlanta, Photo source credit: Toasts & Tables)

Pumpkin Decorations

Spicy orange pumpkins create a whimsical feel for your autumn themed event. We may not be in Halloween season down under, but pumpkins offer a beautiful and budget-conscious alternative to blossoms this season. Pumpkin Placecards

Beautiful little pumpkin placecards and spicy table centrepieces. Autumn is rich with colour, but won’t blow the budget. (Photo source credit: Toasts & Tables).

Happy Celebrating!
