We are so incredibly lucky in Australia to have the choice of so many beautiful wedding destinations.  From the red centre to Tasmania, Byron Bay to Broome, there really is a destination wedding pick for every couple right in our own backyard.  One of Australia’s favourite destination wedding venues continues to be the glorious Whitsundays.  With pristine beaches, elegant accommodation, picturesque ceremony locations, perfect weather and azure water, the Whitsundays is a wonderful choice for your Australian destination wedding.

Given the weather is getting warmer and we’re all thinking of beaches and sunshine, one of our favourite wedding planners Vanessa Bye from  I Do Weddings Whitsundays, offered some timely tips on hosting a Whitsunday wedding.  These tips are equally applicable to other beach wedding destinations.

  • Have a warm winter wedding (average winter temperature 22 degrees, and low rainfall!)
  • Research tide times to ensure high tide for beach weddings and photos
  • Save on shoes and have a barefoot beach wedding
  • Consider appropriate attire for your venue: Flat shoes on the sand and dress the guys in cooler attire
  • Shade your guests with tropical parasol’s and fans
  • Arrive early to finalise everything and above all, relax before your special day
  • A destination wedding – an easy way to cull guest numbers
  • Why have just one special day to remember, have a week-long holiday wedding

I’d like to share a few more to remember about destination weddings:

  • Hire a coordinator based at the location if you can afford it.  This will save you time, energy and angst.  They’ll know the local market, the best vendors, best locations, and will save you stress on the day of your wedding.
  • Have your suppliers send your wedding favours, accessories and decorations directly to the location for you so you’re not having to worry about carrying it on board with you on your flight.  You have enough to worry about!  Pink Frosting ships anywhere in the world and we often send parcels directly to destination wedding venues to save our brides the hassle of carrying their purchases on board.
  • Visit the locations you are interested in before making your decisions.  Don’t rely on travel brochures, which can sometimes be misleading.  Scout around with the help of your wedding coordinator or with the help of local resort staff to make informed decisions about the best ceremony, reception and photograph locations for you.

Happy Celebrating!
