It’s every parent’s nightmare! The first slumber party. Your 10 year old daughter comes home and asks if she can have eight of her best friends stay over at your house for her birthday party next month. Yikes! What to do to make it comfortable for everyone? Here are our best tips for creating a cool slumber party for her, and relaxation for you!

Setting the Scene
Create a pretty and comfortable sleeping area with loads of soft mattresses, fluffy pillows and warm blankets in ample supply. Use complementary linen in shades of pastel pink, lemon and purple. You needn’t buy new linen for the event, but if you don’t have enough for the amount of guests, Target and Big W have gorgeous sheets and blankets in funky designs that won’t break the bank and can be reused over and over again for guests.

Set up a wide screen television, dozens of DVD’s (chosen by the guest of honour), speakers for your daughter’s iPod, as well as robes and slippers for each of the guests.

Organise a snack station with plenty of healthy (and some fun) snacks for the girls to pick at all night. Dancing to the High School Musical soundtrack is really hungry work! Make sure you also have plenty of fresh juices, mineral water and bottled water for them to choose from all night long.

Ensure that the room you choose for the girls to sleep in has a bathroom near by. Stock the bathroom with beautiful soaps, lotions and other pampering items such as eye masks so the guests feel pampered and relaxed during their stay. Fluffy, clean bath towels and face washers in plentiful supply are also a must.

Catering
You have your snack and drink station set up. Make sure you pop in every hour or so to restock the station, and also make sure the girls aren’t up to mischief! Catering can be easy – healthy finger food such as sushi or mini quiches make the best food for hungry tweens.

Set the girls up with a popcorn maker, popcorn boxes and icecream cones for when they’re wanting to relax with the DVD’s on.

Don’t forget that you need to cater for breakfast as well. Enlist the help of your husband and ask him to cook up a BBQ breakfast storm of healthy eggs, salmon and crepes. Also serve different types of cereals and milks to keep fussy eaters happy.

Entertainment
Take your entertainment cues from your daughter, but our picks are:

•	Plenty of DVD’s such as High School Musical and the latest season of 90210 ready to be played.
•	An iPod full of great dance and chill-out music with speakers.
•	Table Topics Teen edition to get the girls talking.
•	Dozens of celebrity magazines, as well as the latest editions of Girlfriend and Dolly at the ready.
•	Manicure and pedicure sets so the girls can pamper one another when they’re ready to chill out and relax.
•	Soothing scented candles for when the guests finally decide to settle down to sleep.

Favours and Guest Gifts
Send guests home with a little care package of relaxing bath salts, mini manicure sets and a scented candle so they can spend the next day catching up on much needed relaxation after a big night of partying!

Happy Celebrating!

One of the hottest trends in kid’s parties right now is the bespoke favour. We create beautiful bespoke favours for many of our kid’s party clients based on their theme and budget. Some of our favourite favours we have put together recently are for a Pirate Party and a Hollywood Princess Party. The Pirate Party favours had a budget of $50 each and the Hollywood Princess Party favours had a budget of $80 each. Even though these budgets are higher than average, we can create something extraordinary for you to give your guests for much less too.

Our favours are being featured in tomorrow’s Sun Herald, so if you’re interested, do pick up a copy!

The hottest place to go if you are a young girl in the US is the phenomenon known as the American Girl Place. These megaplaces present every option a tween girl could ever want to experience all in the one place. There are Broadway shows presented in the prettiest theatres you are ever likely to see, hair salons for dolls, cafes for dining (with or without your doll), a photo studio where you can have your portrait taken with gorgeous glam dress-ups, party options and of course, plenty of shopping!

The American Girl Place has become a phenomenon. It has captured the imagination of girls the nation over and captured mine as well on my visit to the LA AGP. One of the loveliest outcomes of the AGP is the mother and daughter bonding experience it is creating. A visit to AGP is not only for elaborate princess parties and a weekend girlfriend brunch for tweens, it is also the opportunity for mum’s and daughters to experience some bonding magic together in a special place.

Check it out online even if you can’t visit American Girl Place in person.

You’ve hosted fairy parties, baked delicious butter-cream cakes in Barbie shapes and delighted in blowing up hundreds of balloons… but your kids are now tweens, neither a child nor a teen, and are demanding a fabulous, incredible, gender non-specific party for their birthday. What is a parent of a demanding tween to do?

The absolute best tween party we have organised of late is the Oscar Party. Fashion some director boards out of cardboard as your invitations and ask the guests to come dressed as their favourite movie star. Roll out the red carpet at the front door and have as many of your own friends as you can muster all bring cameras along and act as paparazzi as your guests arrive.

Divide your guests into groups and have each group write, direct, act in and film a movie of their own. Create a stage for your actors in the backyard complete with tiered seating. Then, show the films one at a time and present “Oscars” for the best screenplay, actor, actress, director and movie.

At the end of the party, send your guests home with a DVD copy of their film – it’s simple and quick to do if you have a home computer and a teenager in the house! When sending out the thank you cards to your guests, print off copies of the best paparazzi shots and include these on the cards.

We guarantee your guests will love this concept and talk about it for many years to come!

Happy celebrating!
